Indian star Jasprit Bumrah had a spectacular campaign at the ICC T20 World Cup last month. He played a pivotal role in India winning the tournament after a gap of 17 years.
Jasprit Bumrah was by far the best bowler of the competition and was eventually named Player of the Tournament. Throughout the campaign, he provided the team with crucial breakthroughs and also maintained an impressive save rate. The right-hander started his campaign with back-to-back Man of the Match performances against Ireland and Pakistan and has not looked back.
He eventually finished the tournament as the third-highest wicket-taker, behind Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi and his teammate Arshdeep Singh. While Farooqi and Arshdeep picked up 18 wickets, Jasprit Bumrah claimed 15 scalps while maintaining an impressive economy rate of just 4.17.
Now that the World Cup is over, Jasprit Bumrah has revealed details of a relaxed interaction he had with the Canadian players during the competition. India’s final group stage match against Canada was called off due to wet ground.
The Indian team leader revealed that the Canadian players jokingly told him that he would have shared a dressing room with them if he had decided to leave India for Canada. Earlier, Bumrah had revealed that his family wanted him to move to Canada to pursue his studies instead of working hard in cricket.
“I met the Canadian team at this World Cup and they jokingly asked me if I had come here we would have played the World Cup together. It was a very funny conversation,” Jasprit Bumrah told the Indian Express.

Jasprit Bumrah also spoke about how his family wanted him to quit cricket and build his career by moving to Canada. The star player said that his mother was worried about his cricket aspirations and wanted him to quit the game to pursue his studies.
“My uncle used to live in Canada and he’s now living in the US. My mother told me for a few years that I could try whatever I wanted in this sport because she thought there were so many people playing this sport and I couldn’t get to that point because we didn’t have a lot of means to give you and you hadn’t really done it since you were a kid. We thought we’d give it a try and then I’d probably go study in Canada and try to make a living there,” Bumrah said.
Meanwhile, Bumrah has not played any competitive match since last month’s T20 World Cup. He has been rested for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka and is likely to return to action when India host Bangladesh in September.
