The stage is set for a blockbuster IPL 2024 showdown between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 14.

There is a lot of excitement for the exciting encounter between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium, thanks to its rich history in the IPL. Adding to the anticipation of the clash between MI and CSK, R Ashwin of India and Rajasthan Royals (RR) dropped a bombshell.

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin shared some insights from Mumbai Indians (MI) ace Jasprit Bumrah. The off-spinner revealed that MI has been regularly practicing target-chasing for over 250 runs in his training matches, showcasing his formidable batting prowess.

Ashwin also shed light on the unique challenges Wankhede’s bowling poses, highlighting the important swing early in the innings. He pointed out that bowling for the first three overs of the powerplay could give an advantage to the bowlers as the batsmen are still adjusting to the conditions at the Wankhede Stadium.

However, as the match progresses and the batsmen settle in, the swing decreases, making it crucial for teams to take advantage of the opening overs. Ashwin also pointed out how MI strategically deploys Bumrah as a defensive asset towards the end of the powerplay.

R Ashwin said on his YouTube channel: “I was talking to Bumrah after my match with them and he told me there was a bloodbath here. The MI team chases 250+ in their practice matches. A chase of 250 is normal and apparently they chased 268 last year.

They also scored over 230 against DC, which Delhi won by a mere margin of 20 runs. So that’s something to keep in mind. The ball swings quite hard towards Wankhede and bowling the first three overs in the powerplay is quite easier.”

Ashwin added: “This is because the ball will swing and the batter will continue to prepare. If you are around 20/0 in 3 overs. So, you will have 10 wickets in hand and the second half of the powerplay is a bloodbath period. After you have played a bit, the swing will stop to a certain point. “MI uses Bumrah as a defensive weapon after this.”

CSK and MI are in great form in IPL 2024

Talking about Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing IPL 2024, Chennai is doing a great job under new skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad in the tournament. CSK have won three of their five matches in the ongoing IPL 2024 so far and are currently at third place in the points table.

On the other hand, MI had a terrible start to the IPL 2024 campaign with their new skipper Hardik Pandya losing three games in a row. However, MI somehow managed to get back to the winning ways and won consecutive matches in the tournament.

They now sit at seventh place in the IPL 2024 points table and will look to extend their winning streak by beating CSK at their Wankhede stadium, on Sunday.
