The KKR vs SRH IPL 2024 match will be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, March 23. It’s the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader and the third game of the campaign overall. The match starts at 08:00 pm IST.

Both teams finished last season in the second half of the table. While KKR finished seventh, Sunrisers Hyderabad finished last. Shreyas Iyer returns to lead the Kolkata Knight Riders after missing out last season, while SRH have a new captain in Pat Cummins, who had a great time as captain in 2023.

Cummins first retained the Ashes and then won the WTC final and World Cup final against India to cap a memorable year. Interestingly, he is facing his former IPL franchise at home, he played in IPL 2021 and 2022 and previously in IPL 2014 as well.

Shreyas Iyer, meanwhile, missed last season due to a shoulder injury. It was more like he had skipped the season so he could play in the World Cup, where he scored over 500 runs for India and played an important role in their unbeaten run to the final.

The KKR captain was recently removed from the BCCI’s central contract list. On top of that, his lower back problems resurfaced even more. He played the first two Test matches against England and was then left out of the Indian team.

Before joining KKR, he played in the Ranji Trophy final where he got runs but did not take the field for the last two days. He was declared fit when he joined the team after consulting a spine specialist in Mumbai. However, he has been advised that he not stretch his leg forward too much while he defends the ball.

This IPL season is very important for the two respective captains. On the one hand, it is about retaining his place in the team with his performances and, on the other, it is about maintaining the captaincy standards he has set for himself.

In another big news, Gautam Gambhir is back as KKR’s mentor. The Knight Riders had their glory years under him and he is back to help his team win their third IPL title. For SRH, the constant change of coaches and support staff has not brought much success to the team. The challenge for them will be to choose their best four foreign players from a galaxy of superstars.
