Gautam Gambhir never shies away from showing his aggressive side and he did it again on Tuesday (May 21) after the strong display by Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first qualifier of the ongoing IPL 2024 at the stadium Narendra Modi from Ahmedabad.
Led by Mitchell Starc’s fiery spell in the powerplay, the KKR players put up an impressive display after SRH won the toss and opted to bat first. Starc dismissed Travis Head for a duck in the first over before Vaibhav Arora returned Abhishek Sharma in the second over. In the fifth over, Starc dismissed Nitish Reddy and Shahbaz Ahmed in successive deliveries to leave SRH reeling at 39 for 4.
This was followed by a 62-run tussle between Heinrich Klaasen and Rahul Tripathi. However, once the duo departed in quick succession, SRH’s innings went off the rails again as they found themselves reeling at 126 for 9 off 121 for 5. A crucial 30-run cameo from Pat Cummins helped SRH post a total respectable 159.
And while the KKR bowlers were making life difficult for the SRH batsmen on the field, Gautam Gambhir reacted in his own aggressive way in the dugout. He let out a roar and high-fived his fellow coach Abhishek Nayar to celebrate the team’s excellent performance with the ball.

Talking about the game, KKR is in the driver’s seat and looks destined to win it. At the time of writing, they were 119 for 2 after 11 overs and only needed 41 runs off the last nine overs. The winner of the ongoing game will qualify for the final while the loser will have to play against the winner of the Playoff between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals for a place in the title final.
