Rohit Sharma-led India, on Saturday (June 22), thrashed Bangladesh by 50 runs in the Super 8 clash of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The victory all but sealed India’s place in the semi-final of the competition.

Before the victory over Bangladesh, India had thrashed Afghanistan by 47 runs in their first Super 8 match. When asked to bat first, India amassed a grand total of 196 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. It is India’s highest score in the ongoing competition so far.

After the likes of Rohit Sharma (24), Virat Kohli (37), Rishabh Pant (36) and Shivam Dube (34) played useful knocks, Hardik Pandya helped India close the innings strongly by scoring a quick fifty. He scored an unbeaten 50 off 27 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes as India crossed the 190-run mark for the first time in the tournament.

In reply, Bangladesh finished their innings with 146 for 8. Barring captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (40), no other Bangladesh batsman could reach the 30-run mark. For India, Kuldeep Yadav starred with the ball, taking 3 for 19 in 4 overs, while Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah picked up 2 wickets each.

Rohit Sharma’s advice for Kuldeep Yadav:

A brilliant moment involving Indian captain Rohit Sharma was witnessed during the match. The incident took place on the 14th when Kuldeep Yadav was bowling. On the third ball of the over, the left-arm bowler dismissed Shakib Al Hasan for 7 after being hit for a six off the previous delivery.

As Kuldeep bowled his first delivery to new batsman Mahmudullah, captain Rohit Sharma was quick to interrupt with a piece of advice in his own signature style. The Indian captain was not impressed with Kuldeep’s bowling and was heard telling him to let the batsman take the sweep shot.

One just came out while sweeping, let him sweep too),” Rohit Sharma said.

Meanwhile, India will take on Australia in their third and final Super 8 match, scheduled for Monday (June 24).
