Aakash Chopra and LSG

Former Indian cricketer turned renowned broadcaster Aakash Chopra feels that Lucknow Supergiants They have a lack of established local hitters for the Premier League 2024 season. This could well be their biggest weakness ahead of the latest edition of the toughest patterned T20 league. KL Rahulthe only Indian batsman with much experience.

Aakash Chopra made this statement while doing the SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat) analysis of Lucknow Super Giants in his latest YouTube video. There he pointed out that LSG has a strong group of foreign players in both batting and bowling, but there is a real shortage of Indian players in both departments.

Aakash Chopra reviews Lucknow’s 2023 season as lack of Indian players hurt them

The former batsman went on to remind LSG head coach Justin Langer about the franchise’s performance in the last season after KL Rahul was ruled out due to a thigh injury. Aakash Chopra highlighted LSG’s lackluster batting unit after Rahul’s exclusion. His comments are also a clear indication that it is the local players who help win the trophy, not the foreign ones.

And had that been the case, Lucknow had match winners like Quinton De Kock, Kyle Mayers and Nicholas Pooran among others, but they bowed out of the Playoff stage for the second consecutive season. Chopra observed that LSG did not learn from his mistake and openly questioned the form of batsmen like Prerak Mankar, Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya.

“Do they have a potential weakness? Among Indian batsmen, Deepak Hooda’s form went wrong last time. So, the batting form of Prerak Mankad, Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya. Whether to advance the order to Ayush Badoni or not?

“They seemed a bit stuck there because as soon as KL Rahul got injured, the lack of experience in the Indian batting department came to the fore. “They still don’t have a big Indian batsman apart from KL Rahul.” – said Aakash Chopra.

The 46-year-old also suggested that the Langer-led team management arrange his trade to buy Devdutt Padikkal’s batting position in the top order. Although Padikkal is known for his great batting ability, he did not have a good season last year, scoring 261 runs in 11 matches for the Rajasthan Royals. Aakash Chopra also explained why that happened. It was because he was not batting in his preferred position in the top order.

“You can talk about Devdutt Padikkal, but he didn’t have a good last year in the IPL because he wasn’t batting in good numbers. He should have a confirmed place in the top three.” – Chopra added.

Aakash Chopra criticizes LSG for having inexperienced bowling line-up

If we try to summarize the SWOT analysis of LSG done by Aakash Chopra, then all he wanted to convey was that the franchise might be taking the downhill road after two seasons of finishing in the top 4. Chopra pointed out Lucknow’s inexperienced bowling attack, which again lacks a big Indian name.

And the bowlers they have – Mayank Yadav, Yash Thakur and Mohsin Khan – are either dealing with injuries or don’t have any experience playing on the IPL stage.

Lack of experience in Indian fast bowling. Once again, lack of experience is a common thread. You can see that in the form of Indian batsmen, finishers and bowlers. Although I value Yash Thakur a lot, he missed out on a lot of first-class cricket this year. Mohsin Khan surely arrived after dealing with injuries, but we may see Mayank Yadav play for the first time. So abroad there is a lot, a lot of experience, but the experienced players in India are just a handful.” – Chopra concluded.
