MI bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has confirmed that Rohit Sharma has started batting in the nets in Ahmedabad and is being closely watched by head coach Mahela Jayawardene along with the medical team.
Mumbai Indians began IPL 2026, ending their 13-year win drought in their first TATA IPL game. They defeated Kolkata Knight Riders while chasing a massive total of 220 runs, and Rohit Sharma looked to be in full touch.
However, going into the next few games, the batsman struggled and faced the toughest challenge while chasing another massive total against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury in that game and was taken off injured in the game where MI lost the game by 18 runs.
MI coach releases massive update on Rohit Sharma ahead of vital GT clash
Mumbai Indians’ batting unit faced a major setback when Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the next two games following their loss against RCB. Quinton de Kock replaced him in the XI and scored a century on his return for the Mumbai Indians.
The Indian maestro has been practicing in the nets for the MI team ahead of their clash against the Gujarat Titans. Their next clash is against the in-form GT team, who have now won three games in a row and will head home with pride.
Talking about Rohit Sharma’s return, MI bowling coach Paras Mhambrey revealed: “Rohit is batting in the nets in Ahmedabad and continues to be evaluated by the medical team and Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach.”
Will Jacks is expected to join MI ahead of their clash in Ahmedabad.
Mumbai Indians have been eagerly awaiting the return of one of their key players this season. Will Jacks played for them last season as an off-spin bowling all-rounder, coming in to bat lower down the order.
Playing in the same role, he scored many runs for England and picked crucial wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup. His return has been questionable despite no reported injury issues involving the English all-rounder.
MI bowling coach Kieron Pollard has also confirmed his return to the team ahead of the upcoming matches. Jacks could further strengthen his batting order by also adding a spin option in the middle overs.
“Will Jacks is expected to join the team soon,” revealed Paras Mhambrey at the pre-match press conference against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
Mumbai Indians made it to the bottom of the IPL points table
After Kolkata Knight Riders finally recorded their first win of the season against Rajasthan Royals in their home match at the Eden Gardens, they now have three points from seven matches and sit at ninth place in the points table.
Although MI has played two fewer games than the Knights, they have only managed one victory and are in 10th position with only 2 points. They have now lost four games in a row, despite some close games. Bowling form has been a major concern as they have not been able to pick wickets in all phases of the game.
