Things are getting worse for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Their chances of qualifying for the playoffs have taken a huge hit after their loss to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday (April 30) .

Mumbai Indians (MI) crossed swords with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 48th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The match between the two teams took place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Cricket Stadium Bihari Vajpayee Ekana of Lucknow.

It was again another horrendous outing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. They were on the receiving end of a 4-wicket thrashing at the hands of Lucknow Super Giants in the league. They had a torrid outing with the bat and did not allow the pitchers the cushion to defend the target.

Mumbai Indians managed just 144 runs on the board, which in itself describes the kind of poor outing they had. When asked to bat first, they were left reeling at 27/4. Ishan Kishan (32) and Nehal Wadhera (46) played vital hands with the bat and brought their team back into the game.

In the end, it was Tim David (35), who played a brutal handball and ensured that Mumbai Indians ended the fight total on the board. Moshin Khan took two wickets for Lucknow Super Giants, while barring Deepak Hooda, everyone got one wicket each.

With the ball, Mumbai Indians got off to a dream start when Nuwan Untilhara removed Arshin Kulkarni for a golden duck. However, after that, captain KL Rahul (28) and Marcus Stoinis (62) played vital hands with the bat and ensured they kept the game under control.

Deepak Hooda (18) and Nicholas Pooran (14*) made useful contributions as Lucknow Super Giants chased down the target with ease. This was their sixth victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as they got 12 points and moved a little closer to the playoffs.

Mumbai Indians qualification scenario for IPL 2024 playoffs

Mumbai Indians have come under immense pressure in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The loss against Lucknow Super Giants was their seventh loss in the tournament. They are in 9th place in the points table with only 3 wins under their belt. Additionally, they have a poor NRR of -0.272.

Mumbai Indians’ chances of qualifying are diminished. To have a chance of making it to the playoffs, the Hardik Pandya-led team needs to win its last 4 matches of the tournament. This will take them to 14 points, which will not guarantee them a place in the tournament finals, especially with other teams in competition as well.

In addition to winning all their games, they need to make sure they win big because they have a negative NRR. In addition to this, they will also need other results that favor them. The Hardik Pandya-led team could not afford a defeat as it would mean the end of their IPL career.
