Tilak Varma, on Friday (May 3), did well to save Phil Salt’s catch even after a collision in the ongoing match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Salt got going by smashing Nuwan Untilhara for a good four in the third ball of the first over. Untilhara, however, had the last laugh when he returned KKR open on the next delivery. The dismissal was very dramatic as Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir almost botched the catch due to lack of communication between them.

The Sri Lankan pacer bowled a delivery from behind and Salt wanted to hit it on the side. However, he ended up skirting the ball and it slid over the point area. The ball was falling far behind Varma, who was fielding at point.

The left-handed batsman did well to cover the distance quickly and also held the ball before Naman Dhir ran in and collided with him. Fortunately for Mumbai Indians and Untilhara, Varma did well to maintain his composure and did not let the ball slip out of his hands.

Talking about the game, KKR got off to a poor start with the bat after Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl first. After dismissing Salt in the first over, Untilhara struck twice in the third over to send back Angkrish Raghuvanshi and captain Shreyas Iyer.

At the time of writing this report, KKR were reeling on 37 for 3 with Sunil Narine and Venkatesh Iyer batting in the middle.

KKR are looking for their seventh win of the season tonight, while MI are looking for their fourth. A victory for KKR will virtually secure their place in the playoffs. On the other hand, MI will have to win this game to keep their slim playoff chances alive.
