Michael Vaughan says James Anderson is ‘not the greatest of all time’ ahead of pacer’s farewell Test

Former player Michael Vaughan considers James Anderson to be among the top 10 cricketers of all time in international cricket. Michael Vaughan also believes that Stuart Broad is close to him by a small margin, but James Anderson wins the list.

It is noteworthy that James Anderson will retire from Tests after the upcoming first Test between West Indies and England. England will take on West Indies in a three-match T20I series beginning on July 10. Both teams will engage in three thrilling matches during the series and it is also a part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2023-25.

The first Test match between England and West Indies will be played at Lord’s in London. James Anderson will retire from Tests after the series. It is noteworthy that the right-arm spinner has already retired from ODIs and T20Is a long time ago and has only represented the England team in the longest format.

Anderson and Broad were the two mainstays of England in Test cricket. Both players helped England establish a dominant pace attack in the longest format. Broad retired from Tests during The Ashes 2023 last year. Now, his friend Anderson will also be bidding farewell to the longest format soon.

Is James Anderson the greatest pitcher of all time? Michael Vaughan has the answer

During a talk show on Club Prairie Fire, Michael Vaughan gave his opinion on the historic event in which James Anderson said goodbye to the longer format. During the show, the hosts asked him what his reaction was to it.

“Jimmy Anderson is set to play his final Test match for England. 󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧Tomorrow, everyone will be debating where he ranks in the list of the greatest cricketers of all time. What an incredible run! So where is the number one Test seam bowler of all time?” the hosts asked.

“Excuse me, in England? He’s the top wicket-taker. I mean, in international cricket. I think he’s got 987 wickets. He’s got 987 wickets in international cricket,” Vaughan replied.

Former England captain Vaughan also feels Stuart Broad was close to him, but Anderson is England’s greatest international cricketer and is generally ranked in the top 10 cricketers of all time.

“The professor is now realising that when we start talking about the best, he could easily be among the best. He is certainly the best in England by a long way, because Stuart Broad is close to him. In his time, players like Freddie Truman were exceptional players, just like cricket,” Vaughan added.

“Obviously, they don’t get as many wickets, but you have to say that he is up there with the best. I think if you mention him, he is in the top 10 cricketers of all time,” he concluded. Check out the video below.
