Former RCB director of cricket Mike Hesson has picked Rohit Sharma’s innings against Australia in the Super 8 stage as the best knock of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Hesson also picked Kohli’s brilliant 76-run knock in the final against South Africa.

But Hesson was clear in his choice and picked Rohit’s knock as the best. Rohit Sharma’s knock was crucial in the sense that Australia had been India’s bag team before the match. India had lost to Australia in crucial matches like the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) final and the 2023 ODI World Cup final.

Before the start of the match, India was under enormous pressure to beat Australia. The Indian captain took responsibility and played a lightning knock to put India in command.

Mike Hesson picks Rohit Sharma’s knock as the best of the 2024 T20 World Cup

During a show on Sky Sports NZ, Mike Hesson spoke about the best innings in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Hesson considered Rohit Sharma’s innings of 92 off 41 balls in India’s final Super 8 leg match against Australia to be the best knock of the tournament.

“Rohit Sharma’s innings of 92 against Australia was the best innings in the 2024 T20 World Cup,” Hesson said on Sky Sports NZ.

It was an excellent game of cricket, but the highlight was Rohit Sharma’s impressive innings. India batted first against a determined Australia desperately seeking a win to qualify for the semi-finals.

Rohit Sharma put on a masterclass in batting

Australia started well and dismissed Virat Kohli with a cheap delivery for a duck on the fifth ball. However, Rohit Sharma decided to attack from the third over. He smashed Mitchell Starc and smashed him into all corners of the field.

Rohit hit four sixes and a four in Starc’s over and added 29 runs. It was the start of a destructive batting performance by the Indian captain.

Apart from Josh Hazlewood, Rohit was stern with all the Australian bowlers and batted aggressively. Be it Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa or Marcus Stoinis, Rohit Sharma was in spectacular form against all of them. His ability to bat six times was on display and he looked set to score a big century.

Rohit Sharma led India to a comprehensive victory

However, it was Mitchell Starc who came back into the attack for his third over and dismissed Rohit Sharma. It was just the 12th over of the innings and Rohit had already scored 92 runs. He was dismissed for 92 in just 41 balls, which included 7 fours and 8 sixes.

Rohit had taken India into a position where they could aim for a big score and India reached 205-5 in 20 overs. Chasing a daunting target to win, Australia were on course until Travis Head was at the crease. But when he was dismissed, the game turned on its head. Head scored 76 off 43 balls as Australia were reduced to 181-7 in 20 overs.
