Jason Holder made a brilliant catch to dismiss Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar. The catch was not easy to make as two fielders were after the catch at the same time. Jason Holder kept his concentration intact on the ball and grabbed it.
As he had to cover a good amount of ground to catch the ball, at the last moment of the action, Jason Holder lost his balance and caught the ball low on the slide. The third referee decided to give Rajat Patidar after checking the moment several times on the screen. The RCB team was simply not happy with the decision as Holder’s left hand on the slide was seen brushing the grass. Was it a fair catch?
Mohammad Kaif explains the entire capture of Jason Holder through a short video
Former Indian team Cricketer and also former Royal Challengers Bengaluru batsman Mohammad Kaif explained the catch and the authenticity of the catch through a video on social media. Like many cricket fans, Kaif also believes that the ball could have hit the ground when Jason Holder was sliding.
As the ball appears to be touching the ground, there will be doubts surrounding the referee’s decision. Rajat Patidar’s wicket was a big moment in the Gujarat Titans vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
I felt that the contact was on the grass of the ball – Mohammad Kaif
“It’s always difficult for a defender when you have your eyes on the ball and you feel like someone is running from the front, and that can have an impact on you. So the focus is not 100% on the ball; your attention is lost. That’s why I felt like the catch that Holder took here, he made contact with the ground, then when it happens, he gets up,” Mohammad Kaif explains about the catch through a video post.
“When the move was completed, the check happened here; he (Jason Holder) raised his hand. Then he kept the ball on the ground and got up.
“There is no problem there as he completed the catch. I am talking about the third move, but when you are taking the first move, when you took the catch, it touched here, that’s why I felt the contact was on the grass of the ball,” The former cricketer also said that the ball may have touched the ground when Jason Holder’s hand touched the ground when he was on the slide.
