Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad spoke about the victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) in match 7 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He was delighted with the way his team performed and said who needed to improve performance. thus against the team led by Shubman Gill.
It was a near perfect game for the Chennai Super Kings as they defeated the Gujarat Titans by 63 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s team produced a sensational effort with bat, ball and fielding and ensured they registered their second win of the season.
Ruturaj Gaikwad (46) and Rachin Ravindra (46) provided a powerful start for the team before Shivam Dube took center stage. The left-hander played the counterattacking innings and took the game away from his rival. He scored 51 runs off just 23 balls and Chennai Super Kings posted a grand total of 206 runs on the board.
With the ball, Chennai were exceptional as they did not let the opposition settle down at all and picked wickets at regular intervals. Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur Rahman and Tushar Deshpande picked two wickets each, while Matheesha Pathirana and Daryl Mitchell also contributed.
Chennai Super Kings restricted Gujarat Titans to a total of 143/8. They won the game by 63 runs, marking their second consecutive victory of the season. With the victory, they also secured the first place in the IPL 2024 points table.
According to Ruturaj Gaikwad, the match against the Gujarat Titans in Chennai was perfect for his team. He believes Rachin Ravindra’s cameo at the top took the game away from Gujarat Titans. While speaking to the broadcasters, he explained:
“Today’s game was definitely perfect – batting, bowling and fielding – and against a team like Gujarat we needed to put together a performance like this. In Chennai we are not sure what the wicket will be like, we have to do well regardless of batting or bowling first.
“Here, if at the end we have wickets in hand, it helps. I personally felt that Rachin batted brilliantly in the powerplay and took the game away. From then on we were always ahead.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad was also stunned by Shivam Dube’s brutal hit with the bat against the Gujarat Titans. He revealed that ever since the batsman came to CSK, MS Dhoni has worked with him. The captain also expressed his happiness at seeing the team putting in a lot of effort on the field. He added:
“[on Dube] In terms of trust, the management and Mahi bhai worked with him, and his trust is very high. He knows his roles very well. It’s definitely a big plus for us. I’m also impressed with the fielding.
“We might have one or two extra youngsters this year and a great effort from Jinks, even in the last game he ran from one end to the other. Fielding is a big tick for us.”
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will now be seen in action when they take on Delhi Capitals (DC) on March 31 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
