Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu spoke about his snubbing of the Indian team for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. He said that he had some issues with the selectors from the early days of his career, which was potentially the reason why he was not chosen one. for the team despite performing well.

It is fair to say that Ambati Rayudu is one of the most underrated players to have played for India at international level. After being dropped from the team early on, he returned to the team after his impressive performances in IPL 2018, where he scored more than 600 runs.

But when the squad for the tournament was announced it came as a big surprise as Ambati Rayudu was not named in the squad and the head selector chose Vijay Shankar before him, touting the reason why the all-rounder is a 3D player. This angered Rayudu and he posted a cryptic tweet, pointing to the word 3D.

Ambati Rayudu said he was a little surprised that the all-rounder took his place and was quite disappointed when management set him up to bat at No.4. He admitted that if Ajinkya Rahane had taken his place, he would have accepted that decision. Speaking to TV 9 Telugu news, he said:

“I was on a flight when the 2019 ODI World Cup squad was announced. Then the IPL happens. I was very disappointed when I saw the news just after the flight landed. There are already indications that I will not be included in the team. I was a little surprised that an SUV took my place.

“Are you going to play the ODI World Cup? Or selected a team to play a league game? It seemed like they set me up to hit number four. I wouldn’t have felt very good if players like Rahane were picked to fill the role when I was fired. But choosing an SUV without the proper knowledge infuriates me.”

“Only MSK Prasad should say the reason for this decision”, says Ambati Rayudu

Ambati Rayudu also talked about the 3D player saga. He said that MSK Prasad’s tweet made him impatient and that’s why he posted a cryptic tweet. He admitted that people lashed out at Vijay Shankar but that was not his fault and if anyone is to blame it is the former coach. He explained:

“MSK Prasad’s comments about being a 3D player made me more impatient. In that anger, I tweeted that I would watch the game with 3D glasses. Everyone trolled Vijay Shankar. But I didn’t tweet against him or MSK. I satirized the style of the Team India selection. People could not understand this and cursed Vijay Shankar. Of course, there is nothing wrong with it. Just a player waiting for an opportunity like everyone else.”

“I did brilliantly at No. 4 on the New Zealand tour ahead of the ODI World Cup. He believed that he could excel in England where such conditions exist. But I was surprised that the selectors chose the all-rounder instead of replacing the number four when they left me out. Only MSK Prasad should say the reason for this decision.”

Ambati Rayudu recently canceled his run. He last played for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) final in 2023. He ended his career on a high as the team won its fifth title.
