Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar thinks Mumbai Indians (MI) are better Indian Premier League (IPL) than their rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He pointed out that the Mumbai-based team has always defeated the MS Dhoni-led team in the playoffs and is the big team.
One of the most talked about debates in the IPL is who is the best team in the league between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Both teams have been the powerhouse of the league as they have dominated the tournament.
Both MI and CSK have won IPL titles 5 times each and are the most successful teams in the tournament. However, when it comes to the one-on-one matchup between the teams, Mumbai Indians have a superior advantage and have defeated the Yellow Army every time in the final.

Sanjay Manjrekar highlighted the clash between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings while promoting Mumbai as the better team. He pointed to the franchise’s record of 50% ownership by Ambani over other teams. Speaking to Star Sports, he explained:
“One thing that needs to be said is that Mumbai Indians are not just a championship team on the big stage. When it comes to CSK against Mumbai Indians, you also see the playoffs and the final, Mumbai Indians have beaten CSK.
“But overall, in the IPL, when you look at all the teams, nine teams, which team has the best record against all the teams? Bombay Indians. More than 50% winning percentage. “CSK are good, but they haven’t beaten all the other teams as thoroughly as Mumbai Indians have.”
Sanjay Manjrekar further added that the Mumbai Indians franchise is like a real city like Mumbai, which is full of superstars. He explained:
“When you talk about IPL greats, who do you think of? Rohit Sharma, Pollard, think of Bumrah, Lasith Malinga, Suryakumar Yadav. They are all part of Mumbai Indians, so when you think of Mumbai Indians you think of superstars. A bit like our city, Mumbai, which is full of superstars. That’s what Mumbai Indians are. The brand too.”

Sanjay Manjrekar further praised the scouting talent of Mumbai Indians and said that they have produced great players like Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya. He added:
“We have John Wright, who was India’s coach and took India to the next level after 2000, and he is our main talent scout. And one of the talents who emerged as a scout was Jasprit Bumrah, who turned out to be an ‘okay!’ Player Hardik Pandya, another scout find, and now Suryakumar Yadav, was in KKR, but Mumbai Indians scouted him and found a way to improve, and now we have Tilak Varma.”
The Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin in March 2023. Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions, while Mumbai Indians have had few bad seasons in the league. They would hope to return next season and stake their claim to the league.
