Nathan Lyon reveals Virat Kohli’s never-before-heard story about ‘Federer’ in the 2014 Adelaide Test

Australian player Nathan Lyon shared a funny story about Indian batsman Virat Kohli from the Adelaide Test during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2014-15. Nathan Lyon described Virat Kohli as the toughest Indian batsman he has bowled to in his illustrious international career with the Australian team.

The Indian team will take on the Australian team in the first Test of the five-match series at the Optus Stadium in Perth, starting on Friday, November 22. Notably, India will be without captain Rohit Sharma for the series opener. Virat will have more responsibility in the team, given his track record in Australia.

He came to the non-striker’s side and said “Federer” – Nathan Lyon

In a recent conversation, Nathan Lyon recalled his encounter with Virat Kohli during the 2014 Adelaide Test. Lyon said that Virat kept saying ‘Federer’ whenever he walked towards the non-striker’s side. The veteran spinner said that when he asked the batsman about this, Kohli replied: “I have a beautiful forehand.”

“The only battle that comes to mind is the 2014 Test at Adelaide Oval, where he scored 100 in both innings. I would bow to him and he would bat with that ease.”

“I got to the (end) of the non-striker and just say “Federer!” And I said, “Oh, okay, what is this?” And he kept doing it, he kept doing it. AND all the time,” Nathan Lyon said.

“Every time I came there, I said, ‘Federer, Federer.'” And I was like, “Dude, I don’t know if I’m wrong.” but we are playing the wrong sport if you think you are Roger Federer.”

And he says “No, no, I have to beautiful forehand.” I just say, “Oh, okay.” You’re a decent player when you can just sit back and do it. that half of the inning,” he added.

Virat Kohli scored centuries in both innings of the Adelaide Test in 2014

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2014-15 is a memorable series for Australia. With MS Dhoni ruled out of the first Test due to injury, Virat Kohli took over as captain for the first time in a Test match. Kohli scored centuries in both innings of the Adelaide Test, leaving a lasting impact on Australian cricket.

Kohli’s first tour of Australia was in the 2011-12 series. He has smashed six centuries in 13 Tests, scoring 1,352 runs at an impressive average of 54.08.

Nathan Lyon, one of four current players to win BGT

The Australian cricket team is preparing for the upcoming test series at home. Lyon is one of four players in the current Australian team who were part of the team’s last Test series victory against India in 2014-15. Captain Pat Cummins, who debuted in 2011, has never won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

India achieved a historic series victory in Australia in 2018-19 when the hosts were without key players Steve Smith and David Warner due to suspensions. However, India managed another 2-1 series win when they returned two years later. The visitors will be looking for their first victory in the series in Australia.
