Former Indian player Nayan Mongia has backed Prasidh Krishna for the upcoming Test series against South Africa. Nayan Mongia also gave a crucial reason why Prasidh Krishna should be part of the series against South Africa.

In the ongoing T20I series against Australia, Prasidh Krishna has been criticized for his high economy rate. In 3 matches, Prasidh Krishna has had an economy rate of 13.0. In the third T20I, he failed to defend 21 runs from his final over against Australia. Later, he was dropped from the 4th T20I.

The Rajasthan Royals pacer is part of the upcoming Test series against South Africa. The right-arm pacer is not part of the ODI or T20I series. However, he will play for the team in the Test series.

Prasidh Krishna is a longer format player: Nayan Mongia

During a conversation on Star Sports’ show ‘Follow the Blues’, Sanjay Manjrekar gave a crucial reason why Prasidh Krishna should be part of the South Africa Test series. According to Mongia, Krishna is a longer format player. Furthermore, he has the bounce and pace to suit South Africa’s terrain.

“I am happy for Prasidh Krishna. He is a longer format bowler. With the kind of pace he has and the bounce he gets, he can be an excellent bowler on South African pitches. I am a big fan of Prasidh Krishna, especially in Test cricket,” said Nayan Mongia.

Mongia, who represented India from 1994 to 2000 as a wicket-keeper, also believes that senior pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj can prepare Krishan properly during the tour of South Africa.

“It’s good that they gave him a chance. He can be properly groomed with Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. If you have the opportunity, you shouldn’t waste it. You won’t get a better opportunity than this. You can bowl against South Africa in South Africa. You won’t get better wickets than those,” said Mongia, who played 44 Tests and 140 ODIs for India during his career.

Meanwhile, India’s tour of South Africa 2023-24 will witness 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 2 Tests. The T20I series begins with the first match on December 10. The ODI series will follow. The Test series will begin at the end with the opening game on December 26 at Centurion.
