THE LOWDOWN

PAKISTAN

This series serves as important preparation for Pakistan going into the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, which begins in June. Whilst players from other countries are competing in the IPL, Pakistan have the opportunity to compete together as a unit, using both this and a May series in England to determine their most effective T20i line-up. Babar Azam takes charge of the side for the first time since being reinstated as white ball captain by the PCB following their selection committee’s unanimous recommendation.

NEW ZEALAND

Whilst the IPL rules out a number of New Zealand players for this tour, they are also missing key names through injury. Opening batter Finn Allen has a back problem and won’t feature, whilst fast bowler Adam Milne is out after picking up an ankle injury in training. Leading the side is all-rounder Michael Bracewell and uncapped players such as Zak Foulkes and Tim Robinson could make their debuts for the Black Caps in this first T20i.

THE PREDICTION

This New Zealand side expected to feature against Pakistan is expected to be significantly different to the one we should see at the ICC T20 World Cup. With so many absentees, they are firmly on the backfoot without a ball being bowled. Pakistan meanwhile, are in a stronger position in regards to availability and this series feels significantly more important from their perspective. With that in mind, back the hosts to open up with victory in Rawalpindi.

TIP: PAKISTAN TO WIN
