Dinesh Karthik patted the ex on the back Royal Challengers Bangalore Captain Virat Kohli while handing over the orange cap last night.

Virat Kohli dismissed Chennai Super Kings Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad on the IPL 2024 run-scoring chart with his important knock against the Gujarat Titans.

RCB claimed their third consecutive win at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, completing a double of victories over Shubman Gill’s team just weeks after chasing 201 runs in 16 overs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Mohammed Siraj star in RCB’s victory over GT

During the previous match Gujarat Vs Bengaluru, Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Will Jacks played an important role in the victory. But last night Mohammed Siraj, who was out of form in IPL 2024, came into the limelight with his trademark old economic bowling.

Siraj was not the only one who stopped the flow of runs from Gujarat; Players like Yash Dayal, Cameron Green and Vijay Kumar also made their presence felt. But the Indian national bowler, who had an excellent performance in IPL 2023, was the one to watch out for.

Siraj quickly swung into action after Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to have a bowl first. He picked up 2 important wickets from GT openers Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha for 2 and 1 and gave away less than 8 runs in his 4 overs. Yash Dayal had even better figures of 2/21 in his 4 overs as he picked up the wickets of the middle-order forwards under Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan.

Vijay Kumar got rid of Vijay Shankar and Manav Suthar, while Karn Sharma got David Miller and Cameron Green got the best of Sai Sudharsan. None of the Gujarat Titans batsmen could score even 40 runs and Shahrukh Khan, who was dismissed by Virat Kohli, was the team’s top scorer (37 off 24). The GTs were eventually eliminated for just 147.

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis came next with the best possible start to their chase. The duo scored at rates of 155 and 177 respectively, adding 92 runs on the board before the RCB captain left the crease for a score of 64 off 23.

In what should have been an easy chase, RCB’s middle order made it look like an extremely difficult chase. Will Jacks (1), Rajat Patidar (2), Glenn Maxwell (4) and Cameron Green (1) shared just 8 runs between them. RCB drastically went from 92/1 to 111/5 and became 117/6 after Noor Ahmed took advantage of Virat Kohli’s bat with a subtle googly.

But then Dinesh Karthik and Swapnil Singh rose to the task and completed the chase with 38 balls to go. Later, Mohammed Siraj was named man of the match for scoring figures of 29/2.
