Karachi Kings, on Wednesday (December 13), announced the appointment of Shan Masood as their captain ahead of the upcoming Pakistan Super League season. The Karachi-based team recently traded the Pakistani star from Multan Sultans.
Karachi Kings parted ways with spinner Faisal Akram as part of the deal to secure the services of Pakistan’s Test captain ahead of PSL 2024. As part of the deal, they also gave up their first-round picks in the diamond and round categories. silver. Before signing Shan Masood, Karachi had swapped their captain and last season’s Player of the Tournament, Imad Wasim, for Islamabad United’s Hasan Ali.
Now that Imad Wasim is gone, Shan Masood has the responsibility of leading Karachi Kings in 2024. Shan Masood is not new to leading a team in the PSL. In 2020, he managed Multan Sultans and was part of his team in 2021 when they won the PSL. In the last edition of the PSL he scored 236 runs in 9 matches with the help of two half-centuries.

In total, Shan Masood has scored 1318 runs in 43 PSL matches so far. The left-hander has also hit nine half-centuries in the competition. The Karachi Kings hope his fortunes change with the change in captaincy. They have not won the PSL since winning their first title in 2020.
They also failed to reach the playoffs in the last two seasons of the competition. Earlier this month, they hired former West Indies and Afghanistan coach Phil Simmons as their head coach. Simmons has replaced Johan Botha.
Shan Masood foresees success as Test captain:
Shan Masood is currently in Australia where he is preparing for his first Test series as captain. He was named Pakistan’s Test captain last month after Babar Azam’s resignation. Masood will have his task cut out in Australia as Pakistan hope for their first Test victory in the country this century.
In their last five visits to Australia, Pakistan have been whitewashed in Tests and will be desperate to do well in the three-match series. The first test of the series is scheduled for Thursday (December 14) in Perth.
