Indian veteran Ravindra Jadeja was expected to play an important role for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing IPL 2026 after his high-profile trade from Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but his performances so far have been average with both bat and ball.
Jadeja’s batting is becoming a major concern for Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing IPL 2026 as his slow approach in the middle overs is putting pressure on the team. So far he has scored only 152 runs in 10 matches with a decent average of over 50 but a poor strike rate of almost 130.
Ravindra Jadeja’s slow batting hurts Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2026 campaign
However, the left-arm spinner has been economical (7.73) but has managed just seven wickets so far this season. His inability to attack spinners is what worries him the most this season, and this problem is not new. Jadeja has found it difficult to score quickly against spin bowling since 2020.

Jadeja avoids taking risks against spinners and often plays it safe, allowing players to control the game easily. His strike rate against spin was 94.28 between 2022 and 2025, which is not good at all for any regular middle-order batsman. The same problem is clearly visible this season as well.
He has hit just two sixes in 117 balls so far this season, showing that he is not looking to dominate but is simply trying to stay in the crease, which is slowing down Rajasthan Royals’ momentum.
In their previous IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals, Jadeja was sent higher up the order to make an impact. But he exited after scoring just 20 runs off 14 balls, while Donovan Ferreira made a significant impact with an unbeaten 47 off just 14 balls despite being demoted down the order.
He’s not listening: Ravichandran Ashwin on Ravindra Jadeja’s spin fights
Ravichandran Ashwin has now expressed his concern in this regard after RR’s crushing loss to Delhi Capitals. The former off-spinner, who shared the India and CSK dressing room with Jadeja, shared that the RR all-rounder was told many times to hit the spinners aggressively, but he did not listen to anyone.
Ashwin threw salt at Jadeja by saying that he has not made any changes and that is why Axar Patel has preference because he attacks without fear. He pointed out that Jadeja is playing defensive cricket and teams are now exploiting this weakness intelligently in the middles.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ash Ki Baat, Ravichandran Ashwin said: “Many people, including coaches, have spoken to Ravindra Jadeja about taking on the spinners more aggressively, but he doesn’t listen. During the T20 World Cup 2024, whenever India needed a left-hander in the order, they chose Axar Patel instead of the more experienced Jadeja. The reason is simple: Axar doesn’t hesitate. He takes on the spinners and all the other players. with confidence.”

Ravindra Jadeja’s mentality is similar to MS Dhoni’s: Ashwin
Ashwin dropped a bold comment by comparing Jadeja’s style with that of MS Dhoni, saying that his style is outdated in the modern T20 game. He signed off by saying: “This mentality of Ravindra Jadeja is similar to that of MS Dhoni, with whom he has shared many years in the Indian team. Both prefer to deepen the game and target the pacers.”
📢 Ravi Ashwin is not happy with Ravindra Jadeja’s cautious approach against the spinners.
