Delhi Capitals (DC) scored a crucial victory against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in an away match on April 18. It wasn’t easy to defeat RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium but DC managed it.
The Delhi Capitals ace played a vital role in the outcome of the match. He took two crucial wickets to restrict RCB to 175, which was a low total considering the home advantage and Bengaluru’s batting strength.
Ashwin urged the Delhi Capitals to allow Kuldeep Yadav to play all 4 overs.
Former Team India player Ravichandran Ashwin stated that Kuldeep Yadav could be more effective if captain Axar Patel used him well in IPL 2026. Delhi Capitals have so far played 5 matches in the current season, in which there were two matches in which Yadav was not allowed to bowl to complete his quota of 4 overs.
Against the Chennai Super Kings, he managed just two overs. Ashwin suggested DC use Kuldeep Yadav’s total bowling limit. The left-arm wrist spinner has taken five wickets in five matches in IPL 2026 so far, averaging 32.00 with an economy rate of 9.41.
“I don’t agree with the way Axar and Delhi Capitals have handled it. Their main bowler can go for runs at times; this is T20 cricket. But if you don’t let him complete his four overs, then there is a problem somewhere. Sure, in the last match, Kuldeep gave away 26 runs in two overs, but he is your best bowler, give him four overs, let him concede 50 runs,” R Ashwin said on his YouTube Channel.
Ashwin did not agree with Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel’s decision.
Axar Patel decided to bowl first after winning the toss, which was a great decision for him as the match took place in the afternoon. Ashwin did not agree with Patel’s decision to bowl first. He gave credit to the players who restricted RCB to just 175. According to the former cricketer, Tim David’s wicket, taken by Mukesh Kumar, was the turning point of the match.
“It’s not easy to go and beat RCB at their own stadium. I didn’t agree with the decision that Axar Patel had taken. RCB was in a very good position, and from there, how did they get to 175? That was a low score. The way Mukesh Kumar dismissed Tim David, the game turned there. If RCB had made 190, they would have won. But DC, by winning this match, has made this tournament more interesting now,” he added.
The former cricketer praised KL Rahul’s efforts
Ravichandran Ashwin also praised KL Rahul’s batting. The DC opener scored 57 runs in 34 balls with six 4s and two 6s, helping Delhi in the successful run chase.
“The batting he did, incredible batting. KL Rahul is giving the message that he can play with a strike rate of over 200, he is a wicketkeeper and he has experience. He is saying that he has decided to show what his range is. I am very happy for him,” Ashwin said.
