Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans (GT) took on Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in match 52 of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) on Saturday, May 4 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium . in Bengaluru.

The Gujarat Titans were invited to bat first in the match after losing the toss and failed miserably in the powerplay. Shahrukh Khan, David Miller and Rahul Tewatia contributed runs in their 30s to help GT post 147 runs on the board. Defending the target, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli led the players to clean-up but GT made a great comeback by picking 6 quick runs. However, the total was not big enough to defend and RCB won the match by 4 wickets.

Speaking after the match, Shubman Gill said that the score of around 170-180 could have been a challenge for RCB and blamed the loss on the team’s poor performance in the powerplays. Shubman Gill said:

“It all depends on the wicket, you see the first two overs. You get an idea and you play according to that. I think 170-180 on this wicket would have been a good total. I think how we bat in the powerplay and how we play the bowling in the power play, that made the difference.”

Shubman Gill added that they will start from scratch in the next match and take positives from the match against RCB. He also urged his players not to repeat their mistakes. Shubman Gill explained:

“We would have an extra bowling option (if we hadn’t lost the first wickets). It’s never easy. It’s important for us to start from scratch (in the next game), we have to keep going. There are a lot of positives to take from this game, We need to “make sure we don’t repeat our mistakes. “It’s about winning everything we can from now on.”

IPL 2024: Result of previous meeting between RCB and GT

The last time these two teams met was on April 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was a dominant game as they defeated the IPL 2022 champions by 9 wickets with 24 balls remaining.

Batting first, GT got off to a poor start as openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill were dismissed for low scores. After that, Sai Sudharsan (84) and Shahrukh Khan (58) together built an impressive 86-run stand that helped GT gain some momentum. David Miller (26) also made a vital contribution taking GT to 200 for 3.

Chasing the target, Faf du Plessis fell to Sai Kishore in the fourth over after playing an aggressive stroke. Then Will Jacks joined Virat Kohli in the middle and he was quite irritated at first. However, once Jacks reached his half-century, he activated the beast mode of him and within 6 minutes he completed his century and led RCB to victory.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans will be next in action when they take on Chennai Super Kings on May 10 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
