AB de Villiers and Will Jacks

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Will Jacks recently spoke about the comparisons being made between him and former South African cricketer AB de Villers. Will Jacks admitted to being intimidated by the comparison, but expressed his determination to contribute to the team in his own capacity.

Will Jacks scored a magnificent century against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 28. Jacks reached his first IPL hundred off just 41 balls during a 201-run chase. The Bengaluru team successfully chased down a target with four overs to spare in their recent game.

The England batsman reached his half-century off 31 deliveries against the Titans. Jacks then changed gears and reached the century mark off the next 10 balls. He scored 100 runs off 41 balls, including five boundaries and 10 sixes. Following his coup, RCB officially appointed Will Jacks as AB de Villiers’ successor.

“There is one man who would be extremely proud to see Will Jacks shine in the red, blue and gold of RCB. “We are grateful to have seen AB do this for years, we are lucky that Willy J brings back all the memories with his brand of cricket,” RCB posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

It’s a bit discouraging – Will Jacks

During the RCB Insider show, Will Jacks described AB de Villiers as an “RCB legend” and a “world legend”. The young all-rounder acknowledged the challenge of filling the shoes of the legendary South African batsman, admitting that it is a daunting task.

“It’s a bit daunting, it’s a bit scary. Ab De Villiers is an RCB legend, he’s a world legend. It’s a lot of weight but I’ll have to do what I can,” Jacks said.

AB de Villiers played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 157 matches between 2011 and 2021. He scored 4491 runs at an average of 41.20 and a strike rate of 158.64. He recorded two centuries and 37 fifties, with a best score of 133*. He is honored in the RCB ‘Hall of Fame’ alongside Chris Gayle and Vinay Kumar.

Will Jacks made his IPL debut for the RCB team against the Mumbai Indians. The right-handed batsman has scored 176 runs in five matches at an average of 44.00 and a strike rate of 191.3. He achieved a fifty century, his best score being 100*. He has also picked up two wickets with his part-time bowling.

I thought about firing Glenn Maxwell – Will Jacks

Will Jacks revealed that he was excited after being picked by RCB in 2022, despite not being able to play due to injury last season. Jacks joked that he wanted to throw Glenn Maxwell out of the buggy while he was driving.

“I was at home and they picked me. It was fantastic but I got injured. I couldn’t play last season. The RCB fans are ridiculous. I was happy to get rid of him, now that he’s back I’m under pressure. I was driving the buggy. I thought kicking him out,” Jacks added.
