Both players went down cheaply, leaving RCB fans disappointed with their performances.

RCB’s latest foreign recruits Tim David and Jacob Bethell got off to a poor start in the BBL 2024-25 match between Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes.

Tim David, bought by RCB for INR 3 crore, represented the Hobart Hurricanes, while Jacob Bethell, bought for INR 2.6 crore, played for the Melbourne Renegades. Unfortunately, neither player managed to make an impact.

A difficult start for Tim David

The Hurricanes were in deep trouble at 31-4 in 4.3 overs when Tim David walked into the crease. He faced immense pressure to stabilize the Hurricanes’ innings.

However, David’s stay in the area was brief. On the fifth ball of the same over, he edged a Fergus O’Neill delivery straight to wicketkeeper Tim Seifert.

The ball, thrown hard into the corridor of uncertainty, moves far enough away to draw an advantage. David, forced to play the line, couldn’t help but cut it. His 0(2) dismissal left the Hurricanes struggling at 32-5.

This is not the start David would have hoped for, especially after his high-profile signing to the IPL. RCB fans, who are probably tuning in to watch their new recruit, must have been disappointed as David fails to make an impact.

Jacob Bethell’s short stay at the crease

In the same match, RCB’s new signing Tim David was not the only player to have a disappointing start. Jacob Bethell, who played for the Melbourne Renegades, also had a brief stay in the area. Chasing a modest target of 75, Bethell came in when the Renegades were comfortably placed at 51-2 in 4.2 overs. However, his time in the area ended quickly, much like David’s previous dismissal, as he failed to make an impact.

In the 7th over, Nathan Ellis dismissed Bethell for just 3 runs off 6 balls. The delivery, a slower cut, caught Bethell off guard, and he could only muster a thick top edge that was easily caught by McDermott. Like Tim David, Jacob Bethell also came cheap and RCB fans were surely disappointed by his performances.

Hurricanes collapse as Renegades sail to dominant victory

The Hobart Hurricanes suffered their lowest total in the Big Bash League, collapsing for 74 in 12.4 overs after being sent into bat by Renegades captain Will Sutherland. Tom Rogers, Sutherland and Fergus O’Neill each claimed three wickets, while Nathan Ellis top-scored with 35 for 29 in an otherwise dismal batting effort.

Chasing 75, the Renegades cruised to an easy victory with 66 balls to spare. Despite early wickets, Josh Brown and Tim Seifert’s explosive 41-run stand ensured a trouble-free chase. Seifert remained unbeaten on 37, sealing a six-wicket win for the Renegades.
