"Rewrite the record books": Fans go crazy as Ryan Rickelton scores fastest IPL century for MI

Ryan Rickelton reached his IPL hundred for the first time, and it was a memorable one as it came just at the time when it was much needed for Mumbai Indians. He not only reached a hundred but also broke Tilak Varma’s record for the fastest IPL century for Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians had to win this game as they returned home to the Wankhede Stadium, a venue where they have scored most of their runs. However, in the last game at this venue, the batsmen collapsed in a chase against the Chennai Super Kings and hence the team needed their batsmen to rediscover their form.

Ryan Rickelton returned to the Mumbai Indians playing XI after Quinton de Kock was ruled out of the competition due to a wrist injury. Returning against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on a batting pitch in Mumbai, Rickelton looked like a man on a mission.

He began his killing spree with Praful Hinge’s second over at the start of the powerplay and, aided by a promising start from the other end by Will Jacks, Rickelton batted with ease and took off with a shuttler. From there he went deep and scored the fastest century for Mumbai Indians in the history of the season.

Rickelton and Hardik Pandya’s handy collaboration helped MI at the time of his death

Rickelton was batting at his best when Naman Dhir’s wicket fell, and Hardik Pandya, the captain, reached the crease once again ahead of Tilak Varma, who was in better form than the captain.

However, Rickelton mustered some energy and scored his first century alongside Hardik Pandya, who, for the first time this season, looked to be at his best, hitting the ball with some authority.

Pandya scored a 14-ball 31 before youngster Sakib Hussain dismissed him as he attempted to bowl it over the far boundary but was caught on the fence by Heinrich Klaasen. Mumbai Indians finished with a score of 243/5 after 20 overs.
