Ajay Jadeja And Rohit Sharma

Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has expressed concern over captain Rohit Sharma’s fitness ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25) series against Australia. Ajay Jadeja said the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team has received a wake-up call ahead of the much-awaited five-match Test series.

Rohit has been under scrutiny after the team’s humiliating 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand in the recently concluded Test series at home. The Indian captain also failed to make an impact during the series. He scored only 91 runs in six innings at an average of 15.17, his best score being 52.

We should come back with a series win – Ajay Jadeja

Ajay Jadeja backed Rohit Sharma to lead Team India to a series win against Australia after raising concerns about his fitness. Jadeja said India would perform well in the upcoming series even if they do not reach the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) in 2025.

“You get a wake-up call, like our team did now. We won the World Cup this year. [you’re] top of the world, you are the best team and the best captain. Rohit Sharma, I feel sorry for him. “Suddenly he’s fat, he doesn’t move well.”

“I think we will do well. We may not do well enough to reach the World Test Championship final, but I think we should come back with a series win. We are a better team,” Jadeja said during the Sportstar Sports Conclave.

India must win the upcoming series against Australia 4-0 to secure a place in the World Test Championship final without depending on other results in the ongoing cycle.

India went there once in eight years – Ajay Jadeja

Ajay Jadeja also spoke about India dominating Australia like no other team in history. The former batsman pointed out that India did not tour Australia regularly in the past, but now the players are better prepared for the conditions with multiple tours.

“Our cricket has changed; Before, India went there once every eight years, so there were only one or two players who had played there. Now you have several tours, so they are well equipped. “When you have nothing to lose, you are dangerous,” says the 53-year-old.

Rohit Sharma’s India to take on Australia in Perth

Rohit Sharma has not lived up to expectations in Test matches on Australian soil, with no Test centuries to his name. The batsman scored 408 runs in seven Tests at an average of 31.38, including three half-centuries. He scored just 129 runs in four innings during the last tour of Australia.

The first Test of the series will take place at Perth Stadium on November 22. India has announced its 18-man squad for the five-match series. Veteran bowler Mohammed Shami was not included in the team. Notably, Rohit’s participation in the first Test is uncertain due to personal reasons.
