Rohit Sharma, on Monday (June 24), starred with the bat to propel India to a huge total against Australia in the Super 8 game of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
The India captain led from the front and played one of the best knocks by an Indian in the T20 World Cup to guide his team to its highest total in the ongoing competition. The right-handed batsman smashed 92 runs as India ended their innings with a mammoth 205 for 5 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, Saint Lucia.
Asked to bat first, India got off to a poor start when Josh Hazlewood dismissed Virat Kohli for a five-ball duck in the second over. However, Rohit Sharma made his intentions clear in the next over by hitting Mitchell Starc for 4 sixes and a four. He didn’t look back after that.
Rohit Sharma led India’s charge with the bat in the first half of the innings before being dismissed by Starc in the 12th innings. He completed his fifty off just 19 balls in the fifth over to score the fastest fifty of the ongoing T20 World Cup.
India’s opener finally departed in the 12th over after being bowled by Starc. His 92-run knock came off just 41 balls and he was studded with 7 fours and 8 sixes. It was truly a Rohit Sharma show that put India in the driving seat. And although the Indian captain missed a well-deserved ton, he managed to achieve numerous feats thanks to his brilliant knock.
