Rohit Sharma’s Brisbane ton predicted as Sunil Gavaskar demands KL Rahul’s dismissal as opener

Sunil Gavaskar has batted for India captain Rohit Sharma to regain the top spot in the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He believes KL Rahul should return to the middle order as he was originally scheduled to bat in the middle order.

The Indian national cricket team has been making changes to its batting order in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Since Rohit Sharma missed the first game of the series, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings for the team in Perth.

KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal formed historic partnership in Perth

The move paid off as KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal formed a historic partnership and helped the Indian national cricket team win the game. The duo took a double century stand, which was the highest by an Indian pair in Australia, and put pressure on the opposition.

Rohit returned for India in the second game, but they did not change the starting stand. The captain mentioned that it was a tough decision for him personally but for the team it was the right decision and praised KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal for their amazing partnership.

Rohit, however, failed to make an impact in the middle order in the Adelaide Test. Not only him but also the top-ranked KL Rahul did not score any runs in the pink-ball Test, once again sparking talk of the team’s first place in the series.

Many fans and experts have supported Rohit Sharma to return to the top. The latest to join the bandwagon is Sunil Gavaskar. The great batsman cited that KL Rahul opened in the captain’s absence; otherwise, he was supposed to bat in the middle order. Speaking to Sports Tak, he explained:

“Yes, I think he should come with his usual number. We should also keep in mind that why did Rahul open? Because Rohit Sharma was not available for the first Test. Now he was kept as opener for the second Test due to his association with Yashasvi Jaiswal, I can understand.

Rohit Sharma should continue with his usual opening number – Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar further added that neither Rohit nor KL Rahul scored runs in the second innings and hence the captain should be back on top. He added that if the senior batsman starts, he will get a huge amount. He explained:

“But he didn’t make any runs in this Test match. So I think Rahul should wear his usual number 5 or 6. And Rohit Sharma should wear his usual number at the top. If Rohit Sharma makes 30 runs in the third Test, he we can turn it into a great century.” he concluded.
