Team India secured a victory over Australia in the virtual quarter-finals by winning by 24 runs in their final Super 8 match on Monday.

India through their bowlers defended that 205 they posted batting first. Australia threatened to get on the scoreboard through Travis Head (76) and Mitchell Marsh (37), adding to an 81-run stand after David Warner’s first wicket.

However, the Indian bowlers kept the pressure on the Australian batsmen and took wickets in crucial phases of the game. Travis Head’s wicket was the final nail in Australia’s coffin. Jasprit Bumrah fooled him with a slower delivery and Rohit Sharma completed the catch to dismiss him.

The other key moments of the match were when Axar Patel crucially caught a well-tuned Mitchell Marsh and Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Glenn Maxwell.

Sachin Tendulkar tweets after India’s victory

Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to acknowledge India’s efforts on the field in the match against Australia. He congratulated players like Axatr Patel and Jasperit Bumrah for taking advantage of key moments in the match.

“Well done, India! Two crucial moments defined our victory today: @akshar2026’s brilliant catch at the boundary and Travis Head’s wicket of @Jaspritbumrah93. “Can’t wait for the semi-finals,” Sachin wrote on Twitter.

He further praised Rohit Sharma’s counter-attack against Australia after India lost the early wicket of Virat Kohli for a duck. Rohit’s 41-ball 92 set the perfect platform for India’s final score of 205/5. He hit seven fours and eight sixes in his knock and scored 76 of those runs within boundaries.

“Witnessing @ImRo45’s bat was pure joy. He got into good positions and his effortless swing and timing helped him achieve the distance he got. A special knock indeed,” Sachin tweeted about Rohit’s knock.

This is the fifth time that India has reached the semi-final of the T20 World Cup and the second time in a row. They played the final twice in 2007 and 2014 and won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007.

Team India will now face England in the second semi-final in Guyana on June 27 starting at 8 pm IST. India has a chance to avenge their 2022 semi-final loss to England in this match. If they win, it will be their third T20 World Cup final. Under Rohit, India played the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022, the final of the WTC 2023 and the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He is also hoping to win his first ICC title as captain.

Rohit was named Player of the Match for his winning knock. He spoke about what India did well to win the match and also praised his players for the job they did.

“Satisfactory. We know the opponent and the threat they pose. As a team we did well, we continued doing the things we had to do. It gives us a lot of confidence as a team. 200 is a good result, but when you play here with wind “Being a factor Importantly, anything can happen. But I think we got used to the conditions very well and it was about everyone doing their job,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation.
