The legendary Sachin Tendulkar had a brilliant reaction to Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head’s whirlwind batting against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday (May 8).

Sunrisers Hyderabad openers swept LSG as they propelled their team to a historic 10-wicket win in the crucial game. After suffering a seven-wicket defeat against Mumbai Indians in their previous game, SRH needed to win the game to bolster their playoff chances and they won it in style.

With a target of 166 runs, the Hyderabad-based team reached the total in just 9.4 overs to create history. They broke the record for the highest total chased in 10 overs. Head and Sharma did everything they could against LSG to lead their team to the seventh victory of the season.

Both batters came out firing from the start. Head smashed a 16-ball fifty while Sharma did it in just 19 balls. Head scored an unbeaten 89 runs off just 30 balls with the help of eight fours and eight sixes. On the other hand, Sharma remained unbeaten on 75 runs. His knock came off just 28 balls and he was riddled with eight fours and six sixes.

Head and Sharma’s batting whirlwind left everyone in the cricket fraternity stunned. Not only fans but also current and former players were stunned by his hitting power. Sachin Tendulkar, arguably the most decorated batsman in the history of the game, also had a similar reaction. The former India batsman stated that SRH would have scored 300 runs if they had batted first.

“A destructive opening partnership would be an understatement tonight. If these guys had batted first, they would have scored 300!” Sachin Tendulkar wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Mumbai Indians are eliminated:

While Sachin Tendulkar was highly impressed by Head and Sharma’s batting, SRH’s victory also eliminated Mumbai Indians from IPL 2024. The former cricketer is currently part of the Mumbai Indians’ support staff. Mumbai Indians are currently languishing at 9th place in the points table with 8 points from 12 matches.

Even if they win the remaining two league games, they will finish with 12 points. However, it has been confirmed that at least four teams will finish with at least 14 points this season. Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals have 16 points, while SRH has 14 points currently.

On the other hand, the match between Delhi Capitals and LSG will go to 14 points after the match between the two. As a result, Mumbai Indians were eliminated from IPL 2024 in the league stage.
