Former England captain Michael Vaughan has said that Sarfaraz Khan is the perfect No. 6 for the Indian team in Tests. He and veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik praised the way he batted for the Mumbai batsman in the third Test against England.

Sarfaraz Khan made his debut in the game and hit the ground running in international cricket. He scored fifties in both the innings and did so at a very good pace. In the first innings, he scored 62 runs off just 66 balls with the help of 9 fours and a six before his promising knock came to an end due to an unfortunate exit following a miscommunication with Ravindra Jadeja.

In the second innings of the game, Sarfaraz Khan scored an unbeaten 68. His knock came off just 72 balls and was studded with six fours and three sixes. The right-hander has received praise from all quarters for his confidence in his debut in international cricket.

Karthik and Vaughan praise Mohammad Sarfaraz:

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik said that he was impressed with the way Sarfaraz Khan batted on his debut and was not deterred by the occasion. Vaughan, on the other hand, said Sarfaraz’s knock and his partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal allowed Rohit Sharma to declare the innings a little earlier.

“We should talk a little about Sarfaraz Khan. Quiet little knock (of) 68, forging a really good partnership. But what was great was the intention with which he batted. Very different from what he usually does. Generally, when he comes in, there is a much smaller field. He has to find the gaps, he likes to overlook them.

But today was an easy innings in a context of very little pressure. But it was good to see him keep hitting those big shots and not stagnate,” Karthik said.

On the other hand, Vaughan said: “Yes, absolutely. The way he came out and played with Jaiswal allowed Rohit to declare a little earlier and that too with more runs on the board.”
