Dhoni’s iconic shot has been adopted by several cricketers.

Former India captain MS Dhoni, apart from leading India to three ICC titles, has also earned a reputation as one of the best finishers in the game.

Known for his variety of unorthodox shots, the one that stood out and became iconic was his signature helicopter shot. It has since been adopted by several cricketers and a similar incident occurred today.

During the recent AUS vs PAK 3rd T20I, Pakistani speedster Shaheen Afridi turned into a left-handed MS Dhoni and emulated Aaron Hardie’s shot of a delivery.

On the fifth ball of Pakistan’s 16th innings, which was a hit free, Hardie bowled a near-perfect yorker down the leg side. Shaheen deftly got under the ball and played a brilliant helicopter shot. The ball raced towards the mid-wicket boundary, crossing the ropes for a well-timed four.

Shaheen Afridi eventually scored 16 runs off 12 balls, comprising two boundaries and a maximum.

Pakistan impressed by Australia; suffers a 3-0 series whiteout

Talking about the match, Pakistan struggled to put up a competitive total, managing just 117 runs before being bowled out in 18.1 overs. Babar Azam was the only bright spot with 41 runs off 28 balls but the rest of the batting line-up failed to contribute significantly. Stand-in captain Agha Salman, who replaced Mohammad Rizwan, failed to live up to expectations and the team fell from 61/1 to being eliminated in quick succession.

Aaron Hardie put in an impressive performance with the ball and took 3/21. Spencer Johnson and Adam Zampa contributed two wickets each, while Xavier Bartlett and Spencer Johnson each took one wicket to complete the dismantling.

Chasing a trivial target, the Australians concluded the chase with 52 balls still ahead. Although they narrowly lost opener Matt Short by 2, Pakistan could barely make a dent with just two more scalps (Jake Fraser-McGurk and Josh Inglis) before Marcu Stoinis took the hosts over the finish line, remaining unbeaten with 61* to complete a whitewashed 3. -0.
