In what was a shocking move, Sherfane Rutherford was released by the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots last month. The franchise issued the official statement, saying that the batter left the team for personal reasons. At that time, not many paid attention to this, but now reports have made a massive claim.
According to Cricbuzz reports, it is learned that St Kitts and Nevis Patriots batsman Sherfane Rutherford did not leave the team but was expelled from the team. Reports claimed that the team management disciplined the left-hander, but the exact reason is still unclear.
A local YouTube channel reportedly claimed that Sherfane Rutherford was kicked out of the team due to differences with the captain and other members. The channel claimed that this was a similar situation to Kevin Sinclair at CPL 2023 when he was forced to leave Guyana Amazon Warriors under similar circumstances.
Basil Butcher Jr, son of former Guyana and West Indies batsman the late Basil Butcher, revealed the issues and said Sherfane Rutherford had some issues with the captain and management. He added that the problems led to the batsman being dropped from the team. He told his YouTube channel:
“It seemed like there were some problems. That’s what I’m hearing. There may have been some conflict between him and the captain and maybe others, and that led the team to let him go for the rest of the season.”
Sherfane Rutherford played four games for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL)
Sherfane Rutherford played four matches for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024. The batsman did not have the kind of impact he would have liked in the limited opportunities he had. He came back with scores of 1, 0, 34 and 0 and after that, he did not participate in the tournament.
Rutherford managed only 35 runs at an average of 8.75 and a strike rate of 194.44. Not only him, but the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots also didn’t have the kind of tournament they would have wanted. They were the worst performers this year as they failed to get going.
The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots finished last on the points table as they won just one game from their 10 league games. They seemed clueless and were the first team eliminated from the tournament. The Saint Lucia Kings have reached the finals and will face the winners of the game between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Barbados Royals.
Rutherford has represented the West Indies in three ODIs and 21 T20Is. He has also played in the Indian Premier League. The left-hander represented Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024 and won the title with them. He also played for Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the league.
