Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Subramaniam Badrinath brutally criticized Shivam Dube as the team suffered a 10-run loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). While CSK were chasing the target of 195, they were in a good position at the time of the contest.
When they lost their fourth batsman in the form of Sarfaraz Khan, they were on 112 runs inside the 11th over of the second innings. From there, CSK managed to score just 184 runs in 20 overs in reply to SRH’s 195. Soon after Khan’s departure, Dewald Brevis tried to duck and Shivam Dube scored just 21 runs off 16 balls.
Badrinath refused to call Shivam Dube a striker
For the defeat, which CSK could have easily won, Subramaniam Badrinath blamed Shivam Dube, known for his batting skills. In the current Indian Premier League season, Team India’s star has been struggling to perform according to his height. Badrinath called Dube nothing more than baggage for the Chennai Super Kings.
“We keep calling up some big strikers and batsmen. But, I’m sorry to say, it’s too easy to bowl to him (Shivam Dube) in the finals. 60 to beat 36 is easy these days. You are part of the Indian team as a deadly batsman. You don’t bowl and you are a liability on the field. It is impossible to hide it on the field. You are there just to hit your ball. If you can’t even do that and it is just a slow bounce and it’s your turn,” he said. former batsman on his YouTube channel.

The former batsman explained how Shivam Dube will have to bat
Badrinath explained that in today’s T20 cricket, batsmen have to beat even good pitches. To do this, batters will also have to access other areas of the field, using their footwork.
“Gone are the days when you only hit if a bowler missed. You have to access other areas of the pitch and use your feet to move around the crease. He doesn’t have any of these, which makes it very easy to bowl him a yorker. He bowls a yorker or a slow bouncer, and he and the other CSK batsmen are there. He’s finished if you bowl him a yorker. Forget about fours and sixes,” he added.
Badrinath asks Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad to play long innings
After playing 6 matches, CSK is 7th in the points table. The former cricketer expressed that either Sanju Samson or captain Ruturaj Gaikwad will have to play long-form knocks to provide stability to the batting line-up. Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s batting average in IPL 2026 is 13.66 with a strike rate of 112.32 in six outings.
“Sanju or Ruturaj have to play deep. There is no other way, there is no chance, regardless of what changes they make elsewhere. Matthew Short did what he always does, so there is no use blaming him and others,” said Subramaniam Badrinath.
