Former Indian cricketer Hemang Badani lashed out at Punjab batsman Abhishek Sharma for hitting five sixes in the Ranji Trophy 2024. He criticized the player for not playing according to the situation and said that young players must learn patience.

Abhishek Sharma, considered one of the best youngsters in domestic cricket, has had a great touch in the current Punjab domestic circuit. The batsman exudes his batting class in the team’s last Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu.

Abhishek Sharma played a brutal knock and hit five sixes in one over against Sai Kishore. The batsman timed the ball perfectly and landed great blows. While his innings impressed many, Hemang Badani was not impressed and took the opportunity to lash out at the batsman.

Hemang Badani struck the batsman for not playing the long innings. He pointed out that Abhishek Sharma needed to play long innings as the team’s need was to stay there for long and save the game. On his Twitter account, he explained:

“And he went out for 36 in a 4-day game that his team lost, where they were trying to save the game. “You have to play according to the format and the situation.”

Abhishek Sharma finished with a knock of 36 runs in just 16 balls. With five sixes in an over, he became the fourth Indian player in history to score five sixes in an over after Ravi Shastri, Reuben Paul and Shivam Dube. However, his efforts did not count as Punjab suffered a disappointing defeat against Tamil Nadu and ended their campaign at the lowest level.

Hemang Badani, while elaborating his point on Abhishek Sharma, said that he was glorified that the all-rounder was praised when the need of the game was different. He added:

“Well, I did last year but… let’s leave it at that. I’m not criticizing it, but it seems strange to me that this is applauded and glorified when the need for the game was different. Please feel free to criticize me for saying the right thing.”

Is Hemang Badani no longer in Sunrisers Hyderabad?

Former Indian cricketer Hemang Badani in a now deleted tweet mentioned that he has parted ways with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Hemang Badani stated that he is no longer the batting coach of the franchise and that no I haven’t been in contact with them for a few months.

On his Twitter account he stated: “I am not the hitting coach of srh or sec. I haven’t been with them for more than a few months. Enjoyed the trip with them and thank @SunRisers for the opportunity.#IPL2024″

He later deleted the tweet but he himself confirmed the development and will now sit out the IPL for SRH.
