Former Pakistan national cricket team player Basit Ali has lashed out at India national cricket team batsman Shreyas Iyer for his failure in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 game against Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that the batsman needs to play only white ball cricket if he does not realize the necessity of the situation.
Mumbai had a poor outing with the bat in the ongoing game against Jammu and Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25.
The team, which consisted of superstars Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer and others, went all out with just 120 runs.
Shreyas Iyer batted at a strike rate of 157.14 and scored just 11 runs off seven balls.
Shreyas Iyer, in particular, drew attention to Basit Ali. The Mumbai batsman couldn’t get going as he managed just 11 runs off seven balls. He was looking to attack despite wickets falling at the other end as he tried to hit boundaries.
Shreyas Iyer batted at a strike rate of 157.14, hitting a four and a six before getting out. Mumbai were 42 runs for six, and then the batsman’s wicket left them reeling at 47/7. Fortunately, Shardul Thakur scored a half-century and took the team to a total of 120 runs.

Basit Ali lashed out at Shreyas Iyer for playing attacking cricket, saying that the batsmen got ahead of him and he attacked, which was not right. He said I should play red-ball cricket like red-ball. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:
“Iyer made 11 runs off 7 balls. It’s a four-day game. Three batsmen were dismissed in front of you. Play white-ball cricket in that format. If red-ball cricket is done, play it as red-ball cricket. This is my simple advice. We’ll see what they do in the second inning.”

Basit Ali spoke about the poor performances of the Indian national cricket team’s batsmen in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25. He said it is a cause for concern that the team’s players are not scoring runs. He elaborated:
“Rohit Sharma is out, Jaiswal is out, Gill is out, Iyer is out. It’s four-day cricket. When so many players are playing, Iyer has to score a hundred, Rohit has to score a hundred, Jaiswal, Gill, even Pujara is playing, will they all score? ?”
In the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25, Rohit Sharma struggled to get going. He managed three runs off 19 balls, while Jaiswal scored just four runs off eight deliveries. Shubman Gill managed to score only four runs for Punjab, while Rishabh Pant, playing for Delhi, managed only one run.
