Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh identified Shubman Gill while trolling the rising Indian batting star in the recent post shared by Rohit Sharma.

India won the Test series against England 4-1 under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. After that, Rohit took young Indian players Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel for an outing.

He published a photo with the young people on his official Instagram account with the caption “The group of humans in the garden.” The legend refers to his Test series comments when he said “Anyone wanders in the garden.”

Talking about Shubman Gill, he scored 452 runs in five Test matches with two centuries. After not scoring too many runs in the first few Test matches, Gill scored two centuries in the next four Test matches, including 110 in the first innings of the Dharamsala Test.

Yuvraj Singh has been a huge pillar of strength throughout Shubman Gill’s career. After Gill’s century in the Vizag Test, Yuvraj praised the youngster for silencing critics of him.

“Rising to the occasion once again and playing a well-balanced shot! It’s good to see the three-digit mark. Well played, boy, let the bat do the talking.” Yuvraj said.

Earlier, Sunil Gavaskar criticized Gill for being too aggressive in his approach to Test cricket and criticized him for his dismissals in the first innings of the Test series.

“What type of shot were you looking to play? It can be understood if he was looking to play it in the air but it was simply a poorly executed on-drive. He did all the hard work and then made a shot like that.” Gavaskar said.

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen also expressed concern about Gill’s future in Test cricket after his initial failures. Despite not scoring in his first innings, Gill finished as the second-highest run-getter in the series with 452 runs in five Test matches.

“You have someone in the dressing room who changed my game: Rahul Dravid. I don’t know if you’ll watch this broadcast, but go and spend time with Gill and do the same things he told me about. Have him hit the ball offside, practice choosing better lengths and rotation of the hit. Do things that help you become a better player.” Pietersen said earlier on JioCinema.

Shubman Gill to lead Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024

Once he found form, it was KP who fully supported the Indian batsman and suggested that he should be given more time.

“I don’t think you can get rid of someone after a Test match. He will play in the second test and let’s wait until that match. He has all the talent in the world to score runs. I want to see his batting in the next game. ‘Let’s see how Shubman Gill performs. He is allowed to fail in a game. When we came to India in 2012, the entire team failed to perform in a match. We came back and won the series. Don’t rule it out because of the numbers after a test.” he added.

With the Test series now done and dusted, Shubman Gill is gearing up to lead the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024.
