Former New Zealand fast bowler and star commentator Simon Doull recently named Kieron Pollard as the all-time greatest finisher in the IPL.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Doull was playing a winner-remains format, where participants are asked to compare a series of players one by one on certain metrics, and the winner remains to be compared to the next player.
In this specific case, Doull was asked to choose from the finalists in IPL history. The selection of players reflected the best of the finishing batsmen in IPL history.
To start, Doull was asked to choose between David Miller and Glenn Maxwell. He picked the protean left-hander who is currently playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026 and has played for Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants in the past.
David Miller, one of the first winners
David Miller was an important part of the Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) lineup that finished runners-up in IPL 2014. Over the years, he has taken charge in the finals many times. His masterpiece came in the 2013 season, when he made a century in 38 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru after coming to bat at No. 5.
Simon Doull preferred Miller to the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Rinku Singh and Dinesh Karthik.
Miller eventually lost to RCB and Australian Tim David.
Simon Doull falls in love with Tim David
Despite David’s relatively short career, Doull kept him in the game for a long time in the middle phase of the game.
Tim David has shown all his hitting power in the last few years of the IPL and all other T20 cricket in general. Recently, he became the second-fastest player, by number of balls faced, to score 1,000 runs in the IPL. David also played an important role in RCB winning the IPL title last year.
Simon Doull chose David from a host of big names including Albie Morkel, Ravindra Jadeja, Yusuf Pathan, Dwayne Bravo and Hardik Pandya.

Pollard finally gets home
Simon Doull then took David out of the game by preferring MS Dhoni to the Australian.
Doull also chose MS Dhoni instead of Andre Russell, but when faced with the final choice of MS Dhoni or Kieron Pollard, he chose the latter.
Pollard retired from the IPL in 2023 and has since been the batting coach of the Mumbai Indians. As a player, Pollard played a crucial role in delivering five IPL trophies to MI, the only franchise he has played for in the IPL.

Pollard’s Finals heroics with the bat are arguably too many to count. Apart from this, Pollard made timely contributions with the ball and was always a live wire on the field.
