SRH vs GT: Gujarat Titans to sport lavender jersey against Sunrisers Hyderabad after losing to KKR

The Gujarat Titans will don the lavender jersey in their final league match of the ongoing IPL 2024. They were set to wear the jersey in their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders, but the game was called off without a ball being bowled.

The Shubman Gill-led team will now don the jersey for their final match of the season, which will be against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday (May 16) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The Gujarat Titans wore the lavender jersey to show their support for cancer awareness. Last year they also wore the lavender t-shirt to show solidarity with cancer patients.

“This gesture will serve as a reminder of the importance of early detection and access to quality care to improve outcomes in cancer patients. This initiative will help educate fans about cancer prevention, emphasizing the importance of adjustments on lifestyle and regular testing for early detection,” the franchise had said before the match against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024:

After two highly successful seasons, the Gujarat Titans failed to replicate their performance this year. After winning the title in 2022 and finishing runners-up in 2023, the Gujarat Titans had to part ways with their former captain Hardik Pandya, who sealed a sensational return to the Mumbai Indians.

Pandya was replaced by an inexperienced Shubman Gill and the youngster struggled to make much of an impact as captain in his first season. The Gujarat-based team struggled for consistency throughout the season and hardly seemed to have a chance of making the playoffs.

They started their season with an excellent win over defending champions Mumbai Indians before losing against Chennai Super Kings. A win over Sunrisers Hyderabad followed before suffering defeats against Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants.

The 2022 winners won again in style by becoming the first team to beat Rajasthan Royals this season. However, they could not maintain the winning momentum and lost the next match against Delhi Capitals. The Gujarat Titans then won the next game against Punjab Kings before suffering three games in a row. They ended their losing streak with an excellent 35-run win over reigning champions Chennai Super Kings.
