Kavya Maran looks unimpressed as Karn Sharma takes diving catch

Hyderabad: April 25: Karn Sharma took a good catch off his own bowling to send back the dangerous Abdul Samad in the ongoing game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

The player started the game on the right foot. In his first over, he conceded just four runs and castled Nitish Reddy for 13 to leave SRH five down for 69 in the eighth over. And in his next over, he struck again to send Samad back and put RCB in the driver’s seat.

The RCB spinner dismissed Samad on the first ball of the 10th over. It was a length ball on the leg-spinner’s pads and Samad tried to play on the leg side. However, the ball turned at the last moment. As a result, Samad ended up missing his throw towards the bowler. Karn Sharma reacted quickly and dived towards his right side to take a good catch. This was followed by an interesting reaction from SRH CEO Kavya Maran, who seemed absolutely shocked by Samad’s shot.

Early in the game, half-centuries from Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli helped RCB post a competitive total of 206/7 in the allotted 20 overs. Patidar scored a whirlwind 19-ball fifty, while Kohli scored 51 runs off 43 balls. Cameron Green also played a crucial knock of 37 not out to take RCB to a total of over 200. For SRH, Jaydev Unadkat picked up three wickets, while T Natarajan claimed two.

“I think the surface is double paced, especially for the fast bowlers. We can use cutters well on this wicket. The spinners will try to bowl as much length as possible. I was just planning my innings, I wasn’t thinking about a century,” he said. Kick after his dizzying blow.

“It wasn’t a plan but I started well in that over, I was trying to maximize,” he said when asked about hitting Mayank Markande for four sixes in a row. “When playing the spinners, I try to maximize. Make as many runs in an over as I can, to keep the pressure on the bowler. I was also trying to maximize the fast bowler, but I will try that in the next match.”
