His knock came at a crucial time when his team was reeling at 58 for 4.

A young Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star bore testimony to his great batting prowess in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 by scoring a stellar century. The hit occurred during the match between Jammu & Kashmir and Odisha.

Abdul Samad, who was a key cog in SRH’s runners-up campaign last season at IPL 2024, is one of the most promising domestic stars out there.

And once again, the 22-year-old proved his mettle in the premier domestic tournament with a stellar knock of 127 off 117 balls, comprising six fours and nine sixes. Samad’s knock also came at a crucial time for J&K when they were reeling at 58-4 and he rescued the team with deft innings.

Talking about the match, Samad’s heroics also helped J&K post a competitive first innings total of 270. Batting in their first innings, Odisha lost one wicket with 15 runs on the board at the end of Day 1 play.

SRH unlikely to sign Abdul Samad for IPL 2025

Abdul Samad’s brilliant display definitely helps boost his stock ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 auction.

It will be even more important as SRH has reportedly already decided on its retention list.

Proteas big batsman Heinrich Klaasen is expected to be their top retainer at INR 23 crore, followed by Australian all-rounder and skipper Pat Cummins at Rs 18 crore and Abhishek Sharma at INR 14 crore.

The franchise is also considering keeping Australian opener Travis Head along with talented young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Although unlikely, given that each team is allowed six retentions and SRH is already deciding on five players, Abdul Samad may be retained under an uncapped player quota.
