Suryakumar Yadav on the verge of equaling Virat Kohli’s T20I record

SKY is just 39 runs away from equaling Virat Kohli’s record.

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is on the verge of achieving a huge milestone and in the process, he can match former India captain and star batsman Virat Kohli in the ongoing three-match T20I series between India and Bangladesh.

SKY is just 39 runs away from equaling Virat Kohli’s record to become the world’s second-fastest batsman to score 2,500 runs in the shortest format of the game.

Kohli, who retired from T20Is in June 2024 after India’s victorious campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup, had achieved the milestone in 73 matches.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has amassed 2461 runs in 72 T20I appearances till date.

A contribution of 39 runs in the second T20I against Bangladesh will see him equal Kohli’s record in the same number of matches.

However, the fastest to reach 2500 T20I runs is former Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who achieved the feat in just 67 games.

Suryakumar is all set to join these cricket legends, adding another milestone to his remarkable T20I career.

Suryakumar Yadav looked in explosive form in the series opener

In the first T20I against Bangladesh, Suryakumar hit an explosive 29 off 14 balls, maintaining a strike rate of 207.14.

India cruised to a seven-wicket win, bowling out Bangladesh for 127 and comfortably chasing the target with 49 balls remaining.

Arshdeep Singh led the charge with the ball, taking 3/14, while Varun Chakravarthy and Mayank Yadav also took key wickets.

With India leading the three-match series 1-0, the focus is on Suryakumar’s performance in the second T20I on Wednesday (October 9).

A win would seal the series for India, extending their dominant run following a 2-0 win in the test series against Bangladesh.
