India’s fielding coach T Dilip has known Rohit Sharma for years. Dilip served as India’s fielding coach during Rahul Dravid’s tenure as India’s head coach. During this tenure, Rohit Sharma was India’s captain.

Following Dravid’s departure, Dilip has been given the job of fielding coach after his impressive first stint. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma remains the captain of India in the Test and ODI formats as he has retired from T20Is.

But Dilip and Rohit were together before too. During his earlier stint with Deccan Chargers, T Dilip served as the franchise’s assistant fielding coach in the IPL. At that time, Rohit Sharma was still playing for Deccan Chargers and Dilip kept a close eye on young Rohit.

T Dilip breaks silence on his experience with Rohit Sharma

During a conversation on RawTalks with VK podcast on YouTube, Dilip stated that he has known Rohit since his stint with Deccan Chargers. Dilip also stated that Rohit is one of the best human beings he has ever met in his life.

“I don’t have to talk about his batting because everyone knows he is one of the best spinners of the ball. All that is there, but the angle I have seen through my work… When I was with Deccan Chargers, I could see Rohit Sharma from a distance,” Dilip said.

“Over the last three years, whatever time I’ve spent with him, there are very few good human beings like him that I’ve seen in my life,” he added.

Dilip also praised Rohit Sharma for building a great bond with all the members of the Indian team. “Another thing is the relationship he has with each member of the team. The relationship, the bond he has built by talking to each one,” he said.

“He’s actually a very funny person” – T Dilip on Rohit Sharma

The 44-year-old also narrated an incident from India’s recent series against Sri Lanka with offspinner Washington Sundar when Rohit Sharma showed his playful nature on the ground.

“He is a very fun-loving person, a happy person on the field. You must have seen him in the game the other day as well, when Washington jumped twice, the run… So he tries to create a very pleasant atmosphere on the field as a leader,” Dilip said.

“There are funny incidents around that, but he is a great human being and there is no need to talk about how good his leadership is… Before that, there is the World Cup and IPL trophies. He is one of the best,” he added.

Rohit Sharma will be in action in India’s upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, which begins on September 19. After the Test series against Bangladesh, India will play a T20I series against the same team.

After Bangladesh, New Zealand will travel to India for a three-match Test series. But India’s toughest test will be the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year. The Men in Blue will play a five-Test series in Australia against the home side.
