Mayank Yadav and Tom Moody

Former Australian cricketer-turned-analyst Tom Moody has made a massive suggestion to the BCCI and the Indian team at large that they should not rush Mayank Yadav into participating in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Moody made this comment in light of Mayank’s sensational debut season, in which he has already become Man of the Match twice in 3 matches he has not played for LSG since April 7. The youngster suffered a hip injury during LSG’s clash against Gujarat. Titans.

The date of Mayank Yadav’s possible return is yet to be confirmed by the Lucknow Super Giants management as his hip injury is proving to be very serious.

The 21-year-old, who shot to fame in his debut match against Punjab Kings, felt some kind of tightness in his upper right hip while playing in the second innings against GT. Mayank could also bowl only one over in that match where he conceded 13 runs.

Mayank Yadav was thought to return for LSG in time for their clash against Chennai Super Kings last night, but he didn’t. LSG assistant coach Lance Klusener had said before the match that he was unsure about Mayank’s possible return.

But LSG did well without him as they recorded a comfortable 8-wicket win over CSK. Lucknow is now tied on points with KKR, CSK and SRH but is at fifth place due to poor run rate.

Tom Moody says people shouldn’t get too excited about Mayank Yadav

While talking to ESPNcricinfo in the LSG Vs CSK post-match analysis, Tom Moody highlighted some very good points. The Australian began by expressing his first impression of the young man, stating that he was extraordinary in his first matches.

However, Moody said people cannot get too excited about him at the moment and the Indian selectors, after seeing him play regularly at 150, cannot think of him as an option for the T20 World Cup.

The former 2016 IPL winning coach also highlighted the fact that Mayank Yadav got injured only after a few games and with that being said, he cannot be rushed into the Indian team.

“I loved what I saw during the first two games, it was quite extraordinary to the point of wanting to watch replays of that game. But you can’t have a knee-jerk reaction and pick him in the World Cup, when he’s only played two games and is injured.” – Tom Moody said via ESPNcricinfo.

Moody unsure of Mayank’s ability under pressure

Tom Moody went on to state that he is not sure about Mayank Yadav’s ability under pressure and was also curious about his long-term role.

The 58-year-old said Mayank is definitely one for the future but the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka should be the edition he should play in and not the 2024 edition.

“You don’t really know what he is capable of doing over a long period of time, under pressure and in different roles. Yes, he is an absolute guarantee for the future and takes care of the asset. For me, it is the 2026 World Cup.” “You should be looking.” – Moody concluded.
