Former England cricketer Eoin Morgan spoke about India’s chances of winning the T20 World Cup 2024. He believes that Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shivam Dube will have to play a huge role and backed him to light up the tournament .
The Indian players will make it to the T20 World Cup 2024 on the back of decent performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Almost all the players in the team had their moments in the tournament and would be sure to make it into the league.
The T20 World Cup 2024 will be another opportunity for the Indian team to end their ICC title drought. They have been desperate for the title since winning the Champions trophy in 2013. They have had huge heartbreaks and the last one came at the ICC World Cup 2023.
India had a sensational outing in the ICC World Cup 2023 and the way they played, it looked like they would win the tournament. This was because India remained unbeaten until the final as they won 10 games in a row but lost in the final against Australia in front of a packed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
However, in the 2024 T20 World Cup, they would want to change things and win the title. Captain Rohit Sharma would like to add a big feather to his cap and would hope to say a big goodbye to Rahul Dravid, whose contract as head coach will end after the World Cup.
Eoin Morgan believes that India can win the T20 World Cup in 2024. According to him, they were hurt a lot after losing the World Cup and would be eager to win the tournament. Speaking to Sky Sports, he explained:
“I think they (India) can (win), because they have now reached a stage where Adelaide would be hurt, recently losing the World Cup (ODI) at home to Australia in front of 125,000 Indian fans.”

Based on his magnificent performances in IPL 2024, Shivam Dube was named in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. The lanky all-rounder destroyed the spinners of the tournament and amassed 396 runs at 162.30.
With favorable conditions in the United States and the Caribbean, Shivam Dube would certainly be crucial for the Indian team. Eoin Morgan believes hitting power will be a point of difference for the team and according to him, Dube should play. He added:
“The spinner will come into play, the level of batting will come into play if the wickets slow down like we think. But also that excellence in hitting power is the point of difference for me. Shivam Dube has to play, I think.” “He will set this World Cup on fire.”
India will play their warm-up match on June 1 against Bangladesh. They will open their campaign against Ireland on June 5 in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
