Indian batsman Virat Kohli joined the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024. The right-hander was the last player to join the team, while the rest of the team had already started practicing for the tournament.

Virat Kohli has reportedly requested a short break after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and hence his documentation process was started late. The batsman then left Mumbai on Thursday (May 30) and after a 16-hour journey reached New York.

The fact that Virat Kohli arrived in New York just before India’s warm-up match against Bangladesh raises major doubts about his participation in the game, considering jet lag and other travel factors after a long 16-hour journey.

A source close to the BCCI confirmed Virat Kohli’s arrival in New York, stating that the batsman has checked into the team hotel and will rest after a long flight. Speaking to PTI, he stated:

“Virat Kohli has checked into the team hotel and after a long flight he will rest.”

Reports claimed that Virat Kohli will miss the warm-up match but will hold practice sessions with the team ahead of the first match against Ireland. The match, which will be India’s first in the T20 World Cup 2024, will take place on June 5.

Virat Kohli is scheduled to have three practice sessions ahead of the match against Ireland. That would surely help him get a little used to the conditions in New York, where he will be playing cricket for the first time in his career.

On the other hand, the Indian team has begun its preparations for the T20 World Cup 2024 in full swing. The team is in an intense session on Friday (May 31). Vice-captain Hardik Pandya, who is going through a rough patch, devoted more time to batting and bowling and starred in the training.

Virat Kohli to play crucial role for India in T20 World Cup 2024

Virat Kohli, who has been India’s best batsman in the last few T20 World Cups, will once again have a big responsibility this time in the tournament. The batsman will come into the tournament with a lot of confidence and will have a prolific season in the IPL.

Virat Kohli will enter the tournament on the back of 741 runs to his name in IPL 2024 in 15 innings at an average of 61.75 to complete one hundred and five fifty. He would hope to maintain that form and help his team win the tournament.

India would be keen to win the tournament as they have struggled to get going in the last few events. However, this time it will be another chance for a title shot. And for that, Virat Kohli needs to have his best season and others need to collaborate with him.
