India captain Rohit Sharma couldn’t help but pull teammate Kuldeep Yadav’s legs during a special cap presentation ceremony.
Rohit presented Kuldeep with the prestigious cap for being named in the ICC ODI Team of the Year. As many as six Indian players were named in the star-studded squad announced by the ICC earlier this year. Rohit, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami were named in the ODI Team of the Year.
Rohit was also named captain of the team that included players like Travis Head, Daryl Mitchell, Heinrich Klaasen, Marco Jansen and Adam Zampa. Kuldeep came into the team to finish 2023 as the leading wicket-taker. Last year he had taken an impressive 49 wickets in the 50-over format. Kuldeep also did well in the ODI World Cup, taking 15 wickets.
Rohit Sharma mocks Kuldeep Yadav:
During the cap presentation, India head coach Rahul Dravid asked Rohit Sharma to give the cap to Kuldeep Yadav. The players received the cap during a photo session prior to the T20 World Cup. While handing the cap to Kuldeep, Rohit said,
“It gives me great pleasure to present this wonderful cap to a wonderful athlete who has been a true asset to Team India. ICC ODI Team of the Year: Kuldeep Yadav.”
“Thank you Rohit bhai” said the spinner as he received the cap.
“Do you want to say something?,” Rohit said to Kuldeep before the latter said: “No, no. Everything’s fine.”
However, Rohit Sharma insisted that Kuldeep say something on the special occasion and he was soon taken aback. Kuldeep surprised his captain by mentioning that he too had a good season with the bat in ODIs last year.
“I don’t want to say too much. I had a great season last year with both the bat and the ball.” Kuldeep said.
Rohit, stunned, quickly interrupted and asked his teammate: “Bat. When? When?”
When Kuldeep tried to justify himself, Rohit hilariously said: “I was the captain of this team. I’ve never seen him bat. So I don’t know what he’s talking about.”
