When Sai Sudharsan entered the IPL scene, the talent was immediately palpable. Despite being a traditional hitter with a low risk approach, Sudharsan has overcome the T20 format, batting with a better consistency than T20 specialists while maintaining the same attack rate.

However, a great failure in his game in the first seasons was power, especially against the Pacers. I was still hitting them well, but that ability to generate enough energy outside the shortest length deliveries could have been a long -term concern.

But this season has seen an encouraging increase in that aspect, and the Sudharsan rhythm game has increased to a completely new level. While his attack rate against Pacers in IPL 2023 and 2024 was 148.70 and 129.33, respectively, the strike rate of this season against the sprinters has been the whopping of 157.60.

When Sai Sudharsan traveled to Australia with India last year, he linked to power coach Shannon Young to work in his rhythm and game T20 in general. Young has previously worked with players like Glenn Maxwell, Marnus Labuschagne, Babar Azam and Jake Fraser-McGurk and has a Crick-Ket performance laboratory in Melbourne.

In The Times of India, Young explained that he did not do much technical work with Sudharsan and, instead, he discussed the best use of the soil. He said the power coup is more about the impulse generated by the body.

“We did not do much technically with him. We talked about how the ground uses. We have a balance plate here that, as part of the bat adjustment process, allows us to understand how much force passes through the ground. Therefore, when you understand the science of the power stroke, it is about how much impulse we generate with the body.”

Shannon gave the example of a spring that returns to its original position after removing your foot. Similarly, the power that is stored before hitting the ball is the same that is transferred in the point of contact.

“Then, the analogy I use is: ‘Imagine a spring. If you stop in a spring and then take away your spring foot, what about spring? It will bounce’. Now, that’s because that spring has stored energy.

Modification of Sai Sudharsan bats

Except to work in the South Sudharsan game, the Shannon laboratory modified its bats and made them all the same. He revealed that his team captured many data and chose the best performance bat, only to make others of the same dimension and weight.

“What happened was when Sai entered and hit with all his bats, and we measured his exit speed, his launch angle, how much earth force he had, his bat speed, backyard angles. We capture the lots of data, and we passed through the five bats and then we showed him the data of which he really made the best. themselves, the same, the same, that the best worked.

The work done is clearly visible, and the data suggests the same. In 2023, the Sudharsan strike rate against deliveries of a posterior length was 121.6 and 135.7 against short -term deliveries.

Then, in 2024, the strike rate in reverse and short deliveries was 120.3 and 141, respectively. However, this strike rate has increased to 157 against the recoil and 195.5 against short deliveries this year.

Productivity in cutting and extraction shots, reference blows against sprinters, has been higher than in previous years. In 2023, Sudharsan reached 109.09 and had a control of 68.18% in cutting shots, while it had an attack rate of 185.71 and a 50% control in extraction shots.

In 2024, he hit 170.58 and had a control of 70.58% in cut shots, while hitting 159.38 with a control of 68.75% in shots. However, it has a strike rate of 209.67 and a control of 77.41% in cutting shots, while a strike rate of 223.08 and a control of 76.92% in extraction shots this year.

This was the only escape in its armor, and now that it has worked on it, Sudharsan will be unstoppable. He has brought his game T20 to a new level, mixing consistency with the explosion to form a combination as never before.
