Indian batsman Shubman Gill thanked captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid for backing him amid his poor form. He said the duo motivated him and believed in him when things were not going against him.
The long wait was finally over as Shubman Gill finally returned to form and played a magnificent innings. The batsman in the second innings of the ongoing Test against England in Vizag defended the team against him and put them in a dominant position.
The batsman played sensational shots in his innings and helped the team take a lead of around 400 runs. Shubman Gill was having a horrible run in Test cricket and there were calls that even the team management should drop him from the team and play someone else in his place.
However, the team management continued to back Shubman Gill and he hit them back for the fifth time with a magnificent ton. The batsman picked up his third Test ton and got the team out of trouble. He finished with 104 runs and helped the team register a total of 255 runs.
Shubman Gill expressed his gratitude towards Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathour for backing him. He said they had his back and that’s why he was motivated to be at the top of his game. Speaking to reporters, he explained:
“The support I have from Rohit bhai and Rahul [Dravid] Sir and especially Vikram. [Rathore] sir too. They are the ones who have always kept me motivated and always believed in me. And when you have guys like that motivating you, you’re always going to be at the top of your game.”
Since scoring a Test century against Australia in early 2023, Shubman Gill has failed to make a mark in Test cricket. He failed consistently and then moved to the number 3 spot. However, he failed to set the stage on fire and now it seems that he finally managed to crack the format.
It is very important to be true to who you are and how you run – Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill further said that it was important for him to stay true to himself. He noted that trying different things doesn’t help players come out of that shell.
Shubman Gill further added that before the match against England in Vizag, he thought that he would play the same way he used to play before. He elaborated:
“It is very important to be true to who you are and your careers. Sometimes when you try to be too defensive or too aggressive and you try to be something that you’re not, you’re prolonging those innings and sometimes you’re not able to come out of that shell. And that was my thought before this Test match. “I’m going to play like I’ve done before.”
Shubman Gill finished with 104 runs off 147 balls. The batsman hit 11 fours and 2 sixes in his innings before getting out with Shoaib Bashir.
